Burnham Institute for Medical Research at Lake Nona is an independent, not-for-profit biomedical research institution dedicated to advancing the frontiers of scientific knowledge in life sciences and medicine, and providing the foundation for tomorrow’s innovative therapies. Burnham is building 175,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for over 300 faculty and staff. The Lake Nona/Orlando site will feature several outstanding technology cores, and faculty will undertake discovery research in several fields, including launching a new center devoted to diabetes & obesity research.
We have an opportunity for a Research Associate II at our Institute. This position requires experience working with small laboratory animals (mainly mice) and knowledge of the cardiovascular system. Experience with the theory and implementation of cardiac ultrasound is preferred but not mandatory. The major responsibilities in this position will be to perform rodent cardiovascular echocardiography, analyze echocardiographic images, and tabulate data for reporting. Individual will work in an animal surgical laboratory environment which may include an ultra-clean barrier facility with special attire and equipment requirements. Individual must wear protective equipment during some procedures. Majority of everyday activities will be conducted in a dedicated animal imaging room.
This position requires a demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate well with other laboratory staff and principle investigators. Must be well organized and a 'self starter' because the position demands meeting deadlines and critically scheduled experiments. Must have the ability to maintain complete and accurate records and data reports. A working knowledge of basic statistics, computer software is preferred but not mandatory. A willingness to learn about and work with technical equipment is necessary.
Bachelor's degree in a science field or echo technology (sonographer) certification with some animal experience in a laboratory, student setting, or clinic.
